Construction Company: Badge Constructions
Architect: Kirk Architects
G.James Facade Solutions is proud to have been the chosen window and door supplier for the University of Sunshine Coast's - Moreton Bay campus expansion project. Recently featured in the Australian National Construction Review, this $68 million development involved the construction of three new buildings, which added 12,500m² of teaching and research spaces, administration offices, social hubs, and sports facilities. The innovative use of sustainable, prefabricated engineered timber, comprising XLam Australian timbers and European glue-laminated Hess timbers, is a unique element of this build.
The G.James scope of works involved the design, supply, and installation of all the external windows, doors, sun blades, and large custom screens. As with any new construction method, we overcame numerous challenges, one of which was integrating a weather-proof facade into the nominated timber structure. G.James Project Supervisor Daniel Searle highlighted the importance of the builder’s involvement in preparing the window openings and willingness to work through installation issues as they arose.
Leveraging G. James's collective expertise, a new die was designed to expedite the installation process, while a tailored fabrication, packing, and installation sequence was implemented. Continual and open communication with the builder was crucial in overcoming any challenges and ensuring the project satisfied the expectations of all stakeholders.
The end result is a significant addition to the UniSC Moreton Bay campus, one that enhances and supports its standing as an educational facility G.James is pleased to have contributed to this project and we look forward to future collaborations that push the boundaries of architectural and construction excellence.
