Reflecting on the Evolution of Our Extrusion Plant

In 2017, we commissioned the first extrusion press at our 990 Kingsford-Smith Drive site, marking the beginning of a new era for G.James. This milestone set the stage for numerous advancements and upgrades over the following years, transforming our extrusion plant into a state-of-the-art facility.

Reflecting on the Evolution of Our Extrusion Plant

Key Upgrades and Additions Since 2017

1. New 8-Inch, 2500T Extrusion Press

In 2021, we installed and commissioned a cutting-edge 8-inch, 2500-ton extrusion press, along with associated handling equipment. This upgrade significantly boosted our production capabilities and efficiency, allowing us to better serve our customers with high-quality aluminium extrusions.

2. Advanced Warehouse System

We implemented a modern warehouse system designed to store finished cases of aluminium extrusions. This system allows us to call out a customer’s order at the stroke of a button, ensuring fast and accurate order fulfilment.

 3. Automated Die Maintenance Facility

Our facility now includes a highly automated system for cleaning, inspecting, and maintaining extrusion dies. This includes a gas nitrider, which extends die life and enhances reliability, ensuring that our tools are always in optimal condition.

4. Enhanced Toolroom Capabilities

To further support our extrusion processes, we have added a second 5-axis machining centre in our Toolroom. This addition increases our ability to manufacture dies with short lead times, enhancing our responsiveness to customer needs.

5. Improved Recipe Management System

We have been continually refining our extrusion recipe management system to ensure high quality and repeatability every time we process a customer’s order. This system is crucial for maintaining the consistency and excellence that our customers expect from G.James.

These advancements reflect our commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the aluminium extrusion industry.
